UCLA Professor Proposes More Progressive

Does anyone else see something wrong with the progressive furlough/salary reduction scale for those at higher salaries? That is, those with higher salaries are taxed at the same rate as those making MUCH less money.

Remind the Regents that an increase in percentage reduction of larger salaries would solve MUCH more of the deficit!

In the Yudof proposal the categories for salary reduction are in these increments:
5%: $40-46,000
6%: $46,001-60k
7% $60,001-90k
8% $90,001-180k
9%: $180,001-240k
10% >$240,001k

Why not increase the salary reduction by one percentage point
for every increase of $15,000 in salary?
6%: $46,001-60,000
7%: $60,001-75k
8%: $75,001-90k
9% $90,001-105k
10%: $105,001- 120k
11% $120,001-135k
12% $135,001-150k
...
15% $180,001-195k
...
20% $255,001-270k
...
25% $330,001-345k
...
30% $395,001-420k
...
35% $470,001-495k
etc

Salaries of employees of the State of California, including UC, are available from a Sacramento Bee newspaper site. Search by job title, salary range or agency. For UC employees, 2007 data is still the most recent available. All UC employees making less than $20,000 - mostly student workers - are excluded.
